What is it

PARES Trauma (Preparation for Enhanced Trauma Response of Health Teams) is an online training program focused on the initial management of trauma. It is designed for trauma care teams working in both prehospital settings (such as ambulance services) and hospitals, with the goal of improving the quality of response and increasing the capacity of healthcare institutions across the country.

Why

According to information from the Trauma Program and the Directorate of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS) of the Ministry of Health of Argentina, 87% of trauma deaths occur before reaching the hospital or within the first 24 hours of admission.

Contents

  • Introduction: trauma as a condition, epidemiology, trauma system.
  • Prehospital: Organization of Emergency Medical Services, interaction with police, firefighters, and Civil Defense; types of vehicles and transfers, care models, documentation, field triage, communication.
  • Hospital preparation for receiving trauma patients: team, equipment, organization, communication, monitoring, hospital admission, triage.
  • Initial evaluation of trauma patients: priorities, airway, ventilation, circulation, neurological evaluation, and exposure.
  • Monitoring and diagnosis: multiparametric, radiology, SpO2, NG tube, and IV, Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST), need for transfer.
  • Secondary evaluation
  • Special groups: Children, elderly, pregnant, obese individuals.
  • Specific injuries: head trauma, spinal cord trauma, limb injuries, chest and abdominal injuries, pelvis.
  • Conclusion: clinical documentation, scores, informed consent, maintaining potential donor viability.
